Bandipora, June 19: The Open J&K UT Kickboxing Championship 2023 concluded on Tuesday at Salvatore International School, Shilvat, Bandipora. The championship was organized by the Kickboxing Association of Jammu and Kashmir in collaboration with the District Administration Bandipora.
The event witnessed an impressive participation of approximately 470 participants, including both boys and girls from all age categories, representing the 14 districts of Jammu and Kashmir. Participants showcased their skills and determination, resulting in the award of 61 gold medals, 60 silver medals, and 93 bronze medals. Notably, several athletes were selected to represent Jammu and Kashmir in the upcoming WAKO India Senior National Kickboxing Championship 2023 in Jalandhar, Punjab.
The Kickboxing Association of Jammu and Kashmir, a recognized governing body dedicated to promoting and developing kickboxing in the region, organized the championship. The association is committed to nurturing young talent and fostering a culture of sportsmanship through various events, championships, and training programs.
The closing ceremony was graced by esteemed guests and dignitaries, including Abisheikh Jain, Treasurer of WAKO India Kickboxing Federation, as the Chief Guest, and Dr. Omar Farooq Khan, Principal of Salvatore International School, as the Guest of Honor. The presence of other notable personalities added to the honor of the occasion.
Shri Abhishek Jain highlighted the global popularity of kickboxing and expressed his satisfaction with the decision to host the championship in District Bandipora. He recognized the potential of such events to encourage youth participation in sports and steer them away from negative influences. The Chief Guest congratulated the organizing committee for their exceptional efforts in hosting the event and extended gratitude to Salvatore International School for providing equipment and assistance.
The Chief Guest also expressed appreciation to Ms. Nuzhat Gul, Secretary of the Sports Council, for their unconditional support in promoting kickboxing in Jammu and Kashmir.
Fasil Ali Dar, Joint Secretary of the Kickboxing Association of Jammu and Kashmir and Padma Shree awardee, expressed gratitude to the Chief Guest, Guest of Honor, and all dignitaries for their valuable presence and support.
The championship showcased the outstanding talent of young kickboxers and served as an inspiration to other districts. The commitment to supporting such events was emphasized, fostering an environment conducive to the holistic development of young athletes across Jammu and Kashmir.
