Srinagar, Nov 21: The Jammu & Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) concluded its two-day tour of far-flung areas in Sunderbani, Kalakote, Kotranka and Rajouri, with senior leaders directly engaging with locals to address grievances and strengthen grassroots connections.
Led by Javed Ahmed Rana, Minister for Jal Shakti, Forest and Tribal Affairs, and Adv Rattan Lal Gupta, Provincial President JKNC Jammu, the delegation included key leaders such as MLA Budhal Javed Iqbal Choudhary, DDC Shazia Kousar, Vijay Lochan (Chairman SC Cell), Yashu Vardhan Singh (Additional Spokesperson Jammu), Rakesh Singh Raka (Vice President Central Zone), Ashok Sharma (District President Rural Rajouri), Shafayat Khan (District President Urban Rajouri), and others.
During the tour, the leaders held public meetings, visited remote border areas, and interacted with residents to assess pressing issues, particularly those related to water supply, road connectivity, employment and tribal welfare, the party said in a statement issued here.
Rana personally addressed many grievances on the spot, especially concerning water supply, forest rights, and tribal welfare. He assured locals that matters requiring administrative approval would be prioritised to ensure swift resolution. Emphasizing the implementation of the Forest Rights Act, he instructed officers to address genuine demands and provide justice to all stakeholders.
Rana highlighted the enthusiastic participation of locals, who appreciated the government’s proactive efforts to connect directly with the people. “This outreach underscores the Omar Abdullah-led government’s commitment to development and inclusivity,” he said.
Adv Rattan Lal Gupta congratulated the Omar Abdullah-led government on completing one month in office, lauding it for “delivering” on key campaign promises. “These included the restoration of statehood, passing resolutions for special status, and initiating Public Darbars to resolve grievances at people’s doorsteps,” he said.
Gupta said the recent Assembly elections, held after a decade, marked a return to popular governance, replacing a bureaucratic setup that had left many regions feeling neglected. “The proactive tours by ministers to remote and border areas demonstrate the seriousness and responsiveness of this government,” he said.
The NC leader reiterated the government’s commitment to fulfilling its election manifesto. He assured the public that promises, such as increasing the free ration scale from 5 kg to 10 kg per person and providing 12 LPG cylinders annually, would soon be implemented, as confirmed by minister Satish Sharma.
The tour concluded with a strong emphasis on the National Conference’s slogan, “Governance at People’s Doorsteps”, the statement said. The party reaffirmed its pledge to ensure that development reaches even the most remote regions under the leadership of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
