Kulgam, Nov 15: Minister for Higher Education and Medical Education, Sakina Masood, inaugurated a long-awaited bridge in Damhal Hanjipora, Kulgam, on Friday, fulfilling what she called “a big and old demand” of the local population.
“This was a long-standing demand of the people of this area, and I am thankful to Allah that it has finally been fulfilled,” Minister Masood said during the inauguration of the bridge.
The bridge over Yazkhai Nallah at Adijan has significantly reduced the distance between Damhal Hanjipora and Kulgam headquarters. According to the Cabinet Minister, the bridge will enhance connectivity to several areas, benefiting over 50,000 people and easing travel across the subdivision.
She said that she had laid its foundation stone in 2009 during her term as a minister. “The inscription on the foundation stone still marks that moment,” she said. “This bridge was approved in the name of Shaheed Wali Mohammad Itoo, who envisioned this project. It’s an honor to have seen it completed.”
Sakina said that it was Wali Mohammad Itoo’s aspirations for the area, including the Adijan Bridge and the Laisoo-Gudder road. “These projects were his dreams. While he initiated the Adijan Bridge, I feel privileged to have been able to fulfill it along with the Laisoo-Gudder road within a year,” she said.
She extended her gratitude to the R&B department and other officials who played a role in completing the project. “Their hard work has ensured that the benefits of this bridge reach the people. I congratulate the local community and all those who supported this initiative,” she added.
