JAMMU, Apr 06: None of the political parties of the Union Territory (UT) of J&K have given mandate to a woman candidate in the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha Polls so far while women constitute around 50% population of the country.
In both the Lok Sabha seats of Jammu region namely, Kathua-Udhampur-Doda seat and the newly created Jammu-Reasi Lok Sabha seat , no political party including the national parties BJP and Congress has given mandate to a woman.
Pertinent to mention here, both Kathua-Udhampur-Doda seat and the newly created Jammu-Reasi seat of Jammu region will go to polls on April 19th and April 26th.
There are a total of 12 candidates from different parties who have filed their nomination for Kathua-Udhampur-Doda seat, which will go to polls in the first phase of Lok Sabha elections.
From the ruling BJP, the union minister, Jitendra Singh has been fielded by the party for the third consecutive term from Kathua-Udhampur-Doda seat, and similarly, Jugal Kishore Sharma has also been filed by the BJP for the third consecutive term from Jammu-Reasi Lok Sabha seat.
The Congress Party has given mandate to Lal Singh, who, after quitting the BJP, joined the Congress party.
It may be mentioned that Lal Singh has already represented Kathua-Udhampur-Doda Lok Sabha seat as Congress candidate.
GM Saroori has also filed his nomination as candidate of DPAP from Kathua-Udhampur-Doda seat. The BSP has given mandate to Amit Kumar, NPP has given mandate to Balwan Singh, Akam Santan Bharat Dal has given mandate to Manoj Kumar from Kathua-Udhampur-Doda seat.
From the Jammu-Reasi Lok Sabha seat, none of the political parties has preferred to give mandate to a woman. The BJP has given ticket to Jugal Kishore Sharma, while Congress has fielded Raman Bhalla from this prestigious seat of Jammu region.
The Jammu-Reasi Lok Sabha sea will go to polls on 26th of this month and the nomination will l be filed till 8th of April. From Akam Santan Bharat Dal, Advocate Ankur Sharma would contest from this seat.
