Srinagar, Oct 16: Hours after being sworn in as the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah issued his first directive, instructing the union territory’s police to minimize public inconvenience during VIP movements. He emphasized that “stick-waving” and “aggressive gestures” by the police during his travel should be avoided, and no special “green corridor” should be created for his movement.
“I have spoken to the DG of Jammu and Kashmir Police, making it clear that there is to be no green corridor or traffic stoppage when I move by road. Public inconvenience must be minimized, and the use of sirens is to be kept to a minimum. Any use of stick-waving or aggressive gestures is to be completely avoided,” Abdullah posted on X.
The Chief Minister also urged his cabinet colleagues to follow the same approach, stressing that their conduct should be “people-friendly.” “We are here to serve the people, not inconvenience them,” he added.
