Srinagar, March 06: Minister for Jal Shakti Javed Ahmed Rana Thursday said that there are no issues with the drinking water supply in Srinagar and dismissed the concerns raised by Habba Kadal MLA Shamim Firdous in the Assembly about defunct pipelines and inadequate distribution.
In a starred question, Firdous asked whether the water supply pipelines in several areas had become non-functional and whether the department had failed to provide sufficient drinking water to residents. She also sought information on the measures being taken if such problems existed.
In response, Rana stated that no pipelines in Srinagar are defunct. “Whenever a distribution line gets damaged, it is restored under stage contracts, and those beyond repair are replaced with new pipelines,” the minister said.
The minister also assured that potable water is being provided regularly as per the schedule of existing treatment plants, emphasizing that no area in the city is without drinking water. “We are committed to ensuring a reliable water supply to every resident, and regular maintenance is carried out to prevent any disruptions,” the minister added
