Kokernag, Jan 03: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Friday attached a property in the Kokernag area of Anantnag district under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) in connection with an encounter involving a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist, officials said.
NIA Spokesman said that they attached the property of a key accused in a J&K case relating to an encounter involving a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist.
“The chargesheeted accused, Mohammad Akbar Dar, was an associate of LeT terrorist Uzair Khan, and had provided logistical support, shelter, food and intelligence to Khan,” he said.
The NIA Spokesman said that as part of its action against terror networks in Kashmir, NIA has attached Dar’s immovable property, measuring 19 marlas, in Halpora, Kokernag area of Anantnag. The attachment was carried out under Sub-section (1) of Section 25 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, he added,
“Uzair Khan was killed in an encounter in Guri Nad forest area of Kokernag in 2023. Four security personnel were also killed in the encounter,” he said.
Following the encounter, Mohammad Akbar Dar was arrested on 20th September 2023, after 40 live rounds of AK-47 ammunition and other incriminating materials were recovered from his residence.
“He was chargesheeted in March 2024 before the NIA Special Court, Jammu, under section 120-B of the IPC, section 25 of the Arms Act 1959, and sections 18, 19, 38, and 39 of the UA(P)A, 1967, in the case (RC-04/2023/NIA/JMU),” NIA Spokesman added.
Earlier, on December 22, the NIA filed a chargesheet against two individuals in a case related to the seizure of arms and explosives in Jammu and Kashmir. The case is linked to the banned terrorist organization Hizb-ul-Mujahideen (HM).

The chargesheet, submitted to the NIA Special Court in Jammu, named Waheed Ul Zahoor, the driver of the vehicle from which explosives and arms were recovered, and his associate, Mubashir Maqbool Mir. Both accused were reportedly in contact with their handlers based in Pakistan, the officer added.
