Srinagar, June 11: The newly launched Vande Bharat Express on the Katra–Srinagar route has received an overwhelming response from passengers, with all seats booked for the next 10 days, Indian Railways officials confirmed on Wednesday.
Inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 6 as part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project, the high-speed train has been operating at full capacity since its launch, reflecting a strong public demand for reliable and modern rail connectivity in Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking to Rising Kashmir, Chief Area Manager (CAM), Kashmir, Saqib Yousuf Yatoo, said that the passenger response is “extraordinary.”
“We are seeing an excellent response. The Vande Bharat Express is running at full occupancy every day, with advance bookings packed for the next 10 days. This level of enthusiasm is unprecedented for any rail service in the Valley in recent years,” said Yatoo.
He emphasised the broader significance of the train service, saying it goes beyond speed and advanced technology.
“People were waiting for a service that guarantees punctuality, safety, and comfort. This train is not only enhancing regional connectivity but also building trust and reliability among the public,” he added.
Yatoo also noted the train’s potential to significantly benefit Amarnath Yatra pilgrims and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi visitors.
“The train reduces travel time, provides comfort, and ensures a hassle-free journey, especially for elderly and family travellers during the pilgrimage season,” he said.
Jugal Kishor Sharma, Station Superintendent at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra Railway Station, echoed these sentiments.
“The public response has been phenomenal. People are excited, and there are no seats available for the next 10 days,” Sharma said.
He attributed the surge in bookings to the train’s modern features and the religious-tourism importance of the region.
The Katra–Srinagar Vande Bharat Express is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, including automatic doors, Wi-Fi, GPS-based information systems, bio-vacuum toilets, and fully air-conditioned coaches.
Railway officials said if the high demand continues, the Railway Board may explore the possibility of increasing frequency or adding additional coaches.
The service is a key component of the USBRL project, which also includes the world’s highest railway bridge over the Chenab River.
In addition to strong passenger demand, the Vande Bharat Express has also captured the attention of digital content creators across the country. Over the past few days, a large number of vloggers and social media influencers have been travelling on the train and sharing their experiences online.
From YouTube travel channels to Instagram reels, the train’s route through the scenic Kashmir Valley is being widely showcased for its natural beauty, modern infrastructure, and onboard comfort.
Several influencers have posted videos highlighting panoramic views from the train’s large windows, especially during the stretches between Kashmir and Katra.
CAM Kashmir Yatoo said that this organic digital publicity is playing a key role in generating more public interest.
“People are seeing the journey in real time through social media. It’s becoming a trending topic, and that’s helping boost awareness and bookings,” he said.
