Srinagar, July 05: Jammu and Kashmir National Conference chief spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq on Wednesday sought enhancement of internship allowance of BVSC Internees in J&K at par with vet varsities of other states.
Echoing with the sentiments of a delegation of BVSc doctors, who had called on him at the party headquarters here, Tanvir said, “Over-worked and underpaid, why should our veterinary internees suffer? Government veterinary colleges across the country get a monthly stipend ranging from Rs 15000 to Rs. 25,000. But students of Veterinary College and Research Institutes across J&K are being given a paltry amount of Rs 6000 per month. It’s a gross injustice with our youth as the stipend being given is not enough to meet their daily expenditures.”
Asking the government to ensure equitable stipends for veterinary interns in J&K, Tanvir said, “It is completely unfair to ignore the contribution of these interns. These internees should be treated like any other front-line workers. Enhancing their stipend will definitely motivate and enable them to work with enthusiasm. The daily allowance of Rs 200 isn’t even sufficient enough to cover their travel expenses. I hope concerned authorities will address the issue on a priority basis.”
