Srinagar, Mar 01: National Conference Provincial President Showkat Mir on Saturday called on the Government of India to honour the democratic mandate of the people by fulfilling its promise to restore statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.
He made these remarks during an interaction with party functionaries at the party headquarters, Nawa-e-Subha here. Mir emphasised the crucial role of the National Conference (NC) in restoring normalcy and peace in Jammu and Kashmir after 1996.
In a statement issued here, the NC leader highlighted the sacrifices made by the party to bring the region back on the path of development and progress. He expressed gratitude for the people’s continued trust in the party and urged New Delhi to honour the mandate by promptly restoring the promised statehood. “New Delhi must recognise the significance of this mandate and act swiftly to fulfill their promise,” he said.
Mir highlighted the government’s efforts under Omar Abdullah’s leadership to reestablish connections with the people after a six-year absence. “In the past, government officials rarely ventured into neighbourhoods and communities, leaving ordinary citizens feeling neglected. However, the current scenario has undergone a significant transformation. People now throng the secretariat, elected representatives actively engage with their constituents, and ministers are inundated with delegations seeking their attention,” he said.
The NC leader said the forthcoming budget has been crafted with a collaborative approach and promises to usher in a new era of progress and development. “The winds of change are blowing, and the future looks promising,” he added.
