Vadodara, Sept 21: In a momentous achievement for Union Territory (UT) Ladakh, Nazira Banoo from the Line of Control (LOC) village of Lato won the Gold Medal in the Individual Poomsae Under-30 Category at the 1st Khelo India Women’s Taekwondo League Phase 1, held in Vadodara, Gujarat. The event was organized by the Taekwondo Federation of India in collaboration with Khelo India, under the Union Ministry of Youth and Sports Affairs.
The competition saw participants from across states and union territories of India. Nazira’s stellar performance at the national level secured her a place in the Khelo India Women’s League Nationals Phase-III, which will be held in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.
President of the Ladakh Taekwondo Association, Gulzar Hussain Munshi, extended heartfelt congratulations to Nazira Banoo for her exceptional performance. He commended her for making UT Ladakh proud at a prestigious national platform. “Nazira’s victory is a testament to her dedication, hard work, and the growing talent in Ladakh’s Taekwondo community,” Munshi said.
Nazira expressed her deep gratitude to her parents, Coach Zaheer Abass Khan, Coach Mohd Ali, and the Ladakh Taekwondo Association, particularly General Secretary Anayat Ali Shotopa, as well as SAI Centre Kargil for their continuous guidance and support.
In addition to Nazira’s success, two other athletes from Ladakh, Latifa Batool and Asiya Banoo, also participated in the tournament, delivering exceptional performances and showcasing the strength of Taekwondo athletes from the region.
The participation of Ladakh athletes in such national events reflects the commitment and efforts of the Ladakh Taekwondo Association in nurturing and promoting local talent.
