Katra, Dec 18: Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) Wednesday hosted a one-day national seminar on December 18, 2024, titled “Philosophy of the Vedas and the Vedic Roots of Indian Culture.” Organized by the School of Philosophy and Culture (SoPC) and the School of Languages and Literature (SoL&L), the seminar explored the enduring wisdom of the Vedas and their profound influence on Indian philosophy, culture, and heritage.
A statement issued here said that the event was inaugurated by Prof. Pragati Kumar, Vice-Chancellor of SMVDU, who emphasized the relevance of Vedic teachings in addressing contemporary challenges. The keynote address was delivered by Padma Prof. Vishwamurti Shastri, who captivated the audience with his insights into the universal and timeless values of the Vedas.
Sanjeev Verma, Commissioner/Secretary to the Government of Jammu and Kashmir, graced the occasion as Guest of Honor. He highlighted the Vedic roots of Dogri language and culture, drawing parallels with regional traditions. Prof. Dilip Kumar, Regional Director of the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), contributed a scholarly perspective on the interdisciplinary applications of Vedic philosophy.
The seminar was coordinated by Dr. Madhu Mangal Chaturvedi, Head, SoPC, and Dr. Anurag Kumar, Head, SoL&L, along with faculty members Sumanta Sarathi Sharma and Dr. Isha Malhotra. Dr. Uday Pathania delivered the vote of thanks. The event witnessed active participation from scholars, faculty, and students across disciplines. Dignitaries present included Mr. Niraj Gupta, Finance Officer, SMVDU; Dr. Vineet Tyagi, Dean of Research and Development; and faculty members Dr. Anish Kumar and Dr. Shashi Kumar. Students from Government College for Women, Parade Ground, led by Prof. Mamta, and Panthal Higher Secondary School, led by Dr. Bhupender Heera, also took part in the seminar. The seminar served as a platform for enriching discussions on the Vedic roots of Indian culture and their continued relevance in modern times.
