Srinagar, Mar 21: Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat on Friday reaffirmed the commitment of law enforcement agencies to intensify their crackdown on criminals involved in narco-terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing a public darbar in Pulwama, DGP Prabhat emphasized that strict action would be taken against those involved in drug-related crimes. “Criminals involved in narco-terrorism will be dealt with sternly,” he stated, adding that the police would maintain a zero-tolerance approach to such activities.
Highlighting the growing menace of drug abuse, DGP Prabhat said narcotics had become a major challenge for society. “Citizens should come forward with information about drug peddlers, and their identities will be kept confidential. There is no village or locality where drug peddling or the illegal farming of narcotics is not taking place,” he noted.
While acknowledging progress in the fight against drugs, DGP Prabhat said, “Some have claimed that we have controlled 90 percent of the drug menace, but the battle will continue until narco-terrorism is completely eradicated from society.”
The DGP also stressed the crucial role of parents in preventing drug abuse, urging them to keep a close eye on their children’s activities, particularly their use of mobile phones. “While digital technology has its benefits, it also has its drawbacks, especially for young minds. Parents must be vigilant to ensure their children are not drawn into harmful activities,” he warned.
Discussing the effectiveness of digital policing, DGP Prabhat pointed to recent crime cases in Srinagar as evidence of the positive impact of digital arrests in combating crime. “The support of the people is crucial. We will continue to serve and protect society from both criminals and enemies of peace,” he added.
As part of the Jammu and Kashmir Police’s civic engagement initiatives, DGP Prabhat also announced that books for competitive exams would be distributed during the upcoming Civic Action Program in Pulwama, reinforcing the police’s commitment to community welfare and youth empowerment.
Last year, former DGP R R Swain had announced that Police Public Grievance Redressal Durbars would be held in every district of Jammu and Kashmir to address the concerns of the public. The initiative has received a positive response and has been widely appreciated across all sections of society.
