Srinagar, May 03: Continuing its efforts to dismantle the network of narco-terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, authorities have attached properties worth crores of rupees belonging to a gangster and drug peddlers in the Akhnoor and Reasi areas of the Jammu division, officials said.
Notorious gangster Mukesh Kumar, alias Gesha, son of Dilawar Kumar and a resident of Akhnoor, had been evading arrest for an extended period. However, police action has now seized properties valued at crores linked to him, putting an end to his evasion tactics aimed at avoiding execution of the Public Safety Act (PSA) warrant issued by the District Magistrate of Jammu. The attached properties, located in the Akhnoor subdivision of district Jammu, serve as significant evidence of the gangster’s ill-gotten gains, officials stated.
He, further, said that attached properties, located in the Akhnoor subdivision of district Jammu, stand as substantial evidence of the gangster’s ill-gotten gains.
“This operation is aimed at Jammu & Kashmir Police’s relentless commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring the safety and security of the citizens,” he said.
A similar crackdown was witnessed in Reasi, where the District Police seized property belonging to a suspected drug peddler under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS Act) 1985. The action came following intensive investigations into narcotics-related offenses, revealing the unlawful acquisition of property by the individual associated with drug trafficking.
The official said during the course of an intensive investigation into narcotics-related offenses, it was revealed that the individual in question had unlawfully acquired property.
“Acting swiftly upon this information, law enforcement officials proceeded to confiscate the identified property, deemed to have been acquired through illegal means associated with drug trafficking,” he said/
Pertinent to mention here, on May 2, Police attached a residential house worth approximately Rs. 50.00 lacs belonging to a notorious drug peddler in Kunzar, Magam area of district Baramulla.
ADGP Jammu, Anand Jain told Rising Kashmir that Jammu and Kashmir Police will continue to stand firm against criminal activity, ensuring that those who disrupt peace are held accountable. Our commitment to justice knows no bounds, he said.
“The District Police Reasi has confronted the menace of illicit drugs head-on. Through decisive action, today we have seized assets of a suspected drug peddler under NDPS Act provisions. Zero tolerance against drug menace,” Jain said.
Another officer said that they have been directed to take strict and well-planned action against the criminals involved in drug peddling in the Union Territory.
“The (narcotic) trade is extremely dangerous, as it not only destroys the younger generation but also is being used to generate funds to support terrorist activities. There is planned action against the criminals involved in the drug trade.
The officer said they have also directed them to maintain the record of drug peddlers as well as of drug consumers so that action is initiated in a more comprehensive manner.
