Kupwara, Feb 01: Division of Horticulture, Faculty of Agriculture (SKUAST-Kashmir), Wadura in collaboration with KVK Kupwara started a week-long training programme w.e.f 30th Jan. The EMDP training programme titled “Tree architecture for enhanced quality produce under HDP” is sponsored by Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium enterprises (MSME).
The main motive of such programmes is to educate and expose youth to the arena of entrepreneurship opportunities in horticulture particularly quality fruit production through canopy management and tree architecture. Prof. Raihana Habib Kanth, Dean Faculty of Agriculture Wadura who was the chief guest at the inaugural function, underscored the pivotal role of such skill programmes and emphasized the significance of training and pruning as a venture for enhancing production of quality Produce. Prof. Raihana Habib elucidated that such initiative commensurate with the objective of fostering skill development coupled with entrepreneurship among rural youth.
Dr. Kaiser Mohiddin Malik Senior Scientist and Head, KVK Kupwara impressed upon the rural youth to come forward and tap the opportunities of entrepreneurial training programmes and highlighted the importance of canopy management in fruit culture. Dr. Nazir Ahmad Ganai Coordinator of the programme gave overview on various aspects of the training programme placing a strong emphasis on its hands-on approach in livelihood development among the rural populace. The programme was attended by Heads of Division, faculty members, students and participants and media persons.
