Sopore, Oct 23: Member of Parliament (MP) Er Rashid visited Higher Secondary School Qalamabad on Wednesday where he interacted with students and staff. During his visit, he sanctioned Rs 12 lakh from MPLAD funds for the extension of an overhead bridge connecting the two campuses of the school. This infrastructure upgrade aims to enhance student safety and convenience.
Er Rashid also approved Rs 10 lakh for the installation of an ultrasound machine (USG) at Taratpora, Handwara, to improve diagnostic services for local residents.
Later in Sopore, Er Rashid chaired a comprehensive review meeting attended by the Additional Deputy Commissioner Sopore, senior officers, and heads of departments. He discussed village-wise issues related to drinking water facilities, road connectivity, healthcare, and irrigation, emphasising the urgent need for improvements in these basic services. Residents appreciated his localised approach, saying that it was the first time an MP had addressed issues in such detail.
The MP listened to the concerns of traders, transporters and stakeholders from the Fruit Mandi Sopore, focusing on enhancing local infrastructure and business conditions. He received assurances that sanitation facilities would be upgraded in Sopore and its adjoining areas. He stressed the importance of completing PHE schemes before December 2024 to ensure access to clean drinking water.
Er Rashid urged immediate action to resolve the grievances of the town and surrounding areas, particularly regarding drinking water facilities.
