Anantnag, Aug 12: While the annual Shri Amarnath ji Yatra has this year already created a number of records, yet another maiden achievement for the pilgrimage has been to attract overseas Yatris.
Known for offering leisure and adventure tourism attractions to globe-trotters- thanks to Amarnath Yatra- Kashmir is also catching up to become a religious tourism destination now.
Pilgrims such as Jaime and his colleagues from Spain and another pilgrim from Malaysia, who have embarked on the Yatra this year, are hopeful of becoming “brand ambassadors” for the Valley once they return to their respective countries.
Jaime says he was drawn to the Amarnath Yatra for its peacefulness. “I came all the way from Spain for the Amarnath Yatra. We visit this place to pray in the temple. It’s really beautiful here,” says Jaime.
The stunning surroundings give Jaime a sense of calm, he says. “Right from the food to the friendly people, every gesture of the locals here makes it feel like home, not a faraway place,” he added.
All the way from Malaysia, another traveller is also overwhelmed with the spirit of the Yatra. “I started in Kuala Lumpur and flew to Srinagar after getting registered online,” she said. She had heard about the Yatra from friends and through social media, and now she stands in front of the holy cave, feeling grateful and excited, she added.
Even though the considerably colder weather is different from what she’s used to, the traveller says the beauty and bounty of nature helps her keep the enthusiasm high. “From Malaysia’s heat to the cold weather near the holy cave, it’s a major change. But I have warm clothes. The beautiful nature here keeps me going,” she added.
Even though their beliefs might be different, the Malaysian traveller feels a strong connection to her own spirituality. “I believe that the spiritual side is inside us, and the guru is inside too. I talk to the guru inside me. Here at Amarnath, there’s a special feeling that’s very powerful,” she said.
The traveller says she will be more than happy to encourage others to join the journey.
“Seeing is believing, but feeling and experiencing it is something else. I encourage others to try this journey. I’m asking Lord Shiva for a safe trip.” she added.
