Jammu, Dec 01: Minister for Jal Shakti, Forest, Ecology & Environment, and Tribal Affairs, Javed Ahmad Rana, on Sunday said there is a need to instill the spirit of constitutionalism to build a just and equitable society. He called for defeating reactionary forces inimical to social progress and reforms for a stronger and more inclusive India.
The minister was speaking at a function organised by Shri Guru Ravidas Sabha, Bahu Fort, to celebrate Constitution Day.
Addressing the gathering, Rana said that it was a matter of immense pride for every citizen to commemorate the adoption of our Constitution. He said that the Constitution is the supreme book of the land and has shown the right path to tackle the various challenges that have cropped up from time to time.
“Conspiracies are being hatched to weaken our Constitution, both from within and outside, but we have to defeat those evil designs with united hands,” he said.
Recalling Dr Ambedkar’s tireless and inspiring efforts to uplift the marginalized and fight against social injustice, Rana said that his efforts for social justice were transformative and laid the foundation for the empowerment and emancipation of marginalised communities in India.
The minister remarked that the issues confronting our society are not because we lack talent, but because people are divided in many respects. “We, as responsible members of society, have to work in a united manner and stand up for our rights. We have to seriously think about the betterment of our future generations and fulfill our responsibilities with dedication and honesty,” he added.
Javed said the Constitution is a milestone that needs to be celebrated by every stakeholder of Indian democracy.
Underlining that today India is placing a lot of emphasis on becoming Vishwaguru, Rana said that the goal will be realized only by taking all sections of society along, irrespective of their faith, caste, or any other distinction.
Rana said the government under Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is leaving no stone unturned to remove the difficulties in the lives of its people. “We have committed to the people of Jammu and Kashmir certain promises in our manifesto, and our government is working to fulfill those at the earliest,” he said.
On the occasion, the minister felicitated meritorious students who have excelled in various competitive examinations at local and national levels. He announced that the government will bear the costs of the publication of the Dogri translation of the Indian Constitution done by a student.
