Srinagar, Jul 19: A major disruption in Microsoft Corp.’s cloud services caused widespread flight cancellations and delays across the world, including India, on Friday.

Meanwhile, the outage led to the cancellation of around seven flights at Srinagar International Airport and Jammu Airport respectively on Friday.

Director Sheikh-ulAlam Airport, Srinagar, JavaidAnjum told Rising Kashmir that three Indigo Airlines flights were canceled, and two SpiceJet Airlines flights were delayed by over an hour due to an outage in Microsoft’s cloud service.

“Rest flights operated normally at the airport,” he said.

Long queues of passengers were seen at Srinagar airport, with many appearing exhausted.

Similarly at Jammu airport, two flights and several were delayed due to disruption in Microsoft Corp.’s cloud services.

Jammu Airport spokesman said that two flights have been cancelled and several were delayed due to this cloud error. Rest operated normally, he said.

He said that they worked tirelessly to manage the situation and ensure that passengers could continue their journeys despite the technological setback.
The use of hand-written boarding passes was a necessary measure to maintain service continuity and minimise delays.

Surabhi Dadheechi, a passenger at Jammu Airport said she was provided manual boarding pass.

“First of many firsts. Manual Boarding Pass!. Absolute chaos at the airport, but, commendable job by the ground staff of Indigo at Jammu Airport for making the manual process as comfortable as possible for the travellers,” she said in a post on X.

The Microsoft cloud service outage has impacted airlines globally, including major carriers in the United States and India. Airlines such as Frontier, Allegiant, and SunCountry are facing significant disruptions, with Frontier announcing efforts to resume normal operations.

In India, airlines like Indigo, Akasa, and SpiceJet have issued advisories regarding the service disruptions, leading to the issuance of manual boarding passes at airports.

Compounding the technological issues, a significant bug in Microsoft’s Windows operating system has been reported. This bug triggers the infamous Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) error, causing system crashes and restarts. Users worldwide have taken to social media to express their frustrations over this issue.
