Jammu, Jan 24: Jammu and Kashmir achieved a remarkable milestone by providing entrepreneurship and self-employment opportunities to 94,680 youth in a single day. The event, presided over by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha at the Convention Centre, just two days before the celebration of the 75th Republic Day, saw the distribution of sanction letters to set up new units and startups.
During the function, the Lt Governor congratulated the Jammu Kashmir Bank for its efforts in strengthening the spirit of the Ghar Ghar KCC Abhiyaan and Swarozgar Utsav campaigns, which aim at the financial empowerment of farmers and the youth. He commended the bank for its role as the common man’s bank, playing a vital role in the betterment of common people.
The Lt Governor highlighted the significance of this occasion in transforming the economic landscape of the Union Territory, emphasizing that it marks a significant leap forward. Under the Swarozgar Utsav initiative, J&K Bank committed to providing Rs. 1384 Crore to set up new units and startups, covering all Panchayats of J&K UT. The Lt Governor stated that training and supportive infrastructure would be provided to create sustainable employment for the youth in these units.
In addition to this, achievements in the saturation of Kisan Credit Cards across the Union Territory were acknowledged. The Lt Governor mentioned the distribution of Kisan Credit Cards to about 2 lakh farmers under the Ghar-Ghar KCC Abhiyaan, ensuring reliable, adequate, and affordable credit for farmers. He expressed optimism about a new revolution in the Agriculture & Allied Sector that would pave the way for prosperity in Jammu and Kashmir.
Appreciating the J&K Bank’s contribution to social development projects under its CSR initiatives, the Lt Governor underscored the importance of input credit in Agriculture and MSME sectors. He directed the bank to achieve saturation in Ghar Ghar KCC Abhiyaan, Stand-Up India, and Startups, urging them to take financial literacy programs to a broader section of the population.
Furthermore, the Lt Governor handed over Insurance Claim Settlement cheques to the legal heirs of deceased Government Employees covered under the Bank’s Group Personal Accidental Insurance. He also felicitated successful entrepreneurs and farmers financed by the bank.
The Lt Governor launched the Kisan Sathi Chatbot, an AI-based farmer-friendly application of the Agriculture Production Department, with the bank contributing Rs 40.27 lakh under its CSR initiative for the chatbot application.
Additionally, cheques under the J&K Bank CSR Programme were handed over to representatives of Jammu Smart City and Srinagar Smart City for the construction of e-bus bays/passenger sheds. Various other CSR initiatives, including contributions to the Department of Health and Medical Education, transport ambulances, and financial aid to universities and social welfare organizations, were also highlighted.
The event concluded with the screening of two corporate movies themed upon the Bank’s ‘Ghar-Ghar KCC Abhiyaan & Swarozgar Utsav’ and CSR Initiatives. Notable officials, including Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Principal Secretary Agriculture Production Department Shailendra Kumar, CGM NABARD B. Sridhar, and MD and CEO J&K Bank Baldev Prakash, were present during the event.
