Ganderbal, May 22: Mian Altaf Ahmad, Member of Parliament (MP) from Anantnag-Rajouri and custodian (Sajjad Nasheen) of the revered Baba Nagri shrine in Wangat, Kangan area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, has opted out of an all-party foreign delegation visit ahead of the annual Urs at the shrine.
The high-profile delegation, led by DMK MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, departed Thursday for a five-nation tour—covering Spain, Greece, Latvia, and Russia—as part of the Government of India’s diplomatic initiative following the launch of “Operation Sindoor.”
The mission aims to strengthen India’s global stance against cross-border terrorism. Under this initiative, seven cross-party delegations are scheduled to visit key partner nations, including members of the United Nations Security Council, to reinforce New Delhi’s message of zero tolerance towards terrorism.
Notable MPs, including Ghulam Nabi Azad, Engineer Rashid and Gulam Ali Khatana, are part of the delegation. However, Mian Altaf declined participation, citing his religious responsibilities as the annual Urs of Baba Nagri shrine is set to begin on June 8 next month.
