The Meteorological Department Srinagar on Tuesday issued a weather alert, forecasting a spell of heavy to very heavy rain at many places across the Jammu and Kashmir during the next 14 to 16 hours.
According to the advisory, districts including Jammu, Kathua, Reasi, Udhampur, Doda, Rajouri and Ramban are likely to witness intense rainfall activity. The department has also cautioned of moderate to heavy rain, along with brief but intense showers, over several parts of the Pir Panjal range, including Kishtwar and South Kashmir, in the coming hours.
Officials said the weather conditions may lead to waterlogging in low-lying areas, disruption of traffic on highways, and an increased risk of flash floods or landslides in hilly regions. People living in vulnerable areas have been advised to remain cautious.
The department has urged authorities to stay on alert and the public to avoid unnecessary travel during the period of heavy rainfall.
