Srinagar, June 11: After several days of increase in day temperatures in Kashmir, the Meteorological Department (MeT) forecasted intermittent light rains in the Valley from June 13 to 17 in the Himalayan region, officials said.
Sonam Lotus, Director Meteorological Centre Kashmir, told Rising Kashmir that Monday will be mostly dry, but a brief spell of showers and thunderstorms in the evening cannot be ruled out, adding though the chances are low (20-30%).
Lotus forecasted intermittent light rain in scattered areas of Jammu and Kashmir from June 13-17 as a result of western disturbances. Overall, no significant rainfall is expected in the region, he said.
Maximum temperatures in Kashmir rose sharply, with Srinagar recording a maximum temperature of 27.7 degrees Celsius and a minimum temperature of 16.6 degrees Celsius.
Pahalgam settled at 21.9 °C degrees as maximum temperature and 10.3 °C as minimum temperatures. Ski-resort Gulmarg recorded 17.4 °C as the maximum temperature and 11.0°C as minimum temperature.
Winter Capital, Jammu recorded 37.4 degrees Celsius as the maximum temperature and 24.1°C as the minimum temperature. Katra recorded 33 °C and 21°C as the minimum temperature.
On Sunday, Mughal road, connecting Shopian district with the twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch, reopened for vehicular traffic after remaining blocked for little over an hour due to landslide, officials said.
DTI Mughal Road Shoket Amin Khan said debris from the landslide was cleared and vehicular traffic restored at the affected place.
The thoroughfare was blocked near Ratta Chamb in this mountainous district due to landslides. Immediately, they said, men and machinery were pressed into service to clear the road.
A traffic police department spokesman said during the past 24 hours, Jammu Srinagar highway remained closed for 03 hours 30 minutes due to closure of CN tunnel, slow movement of N44 due to breakdown of 7 HMV’s and movement of nomadic flocks.
On Tuesday, subject to fair weather and road clearance, Passenger and private cars shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar NHW viz Jammu towards Srinagar and vice-versa.
“TCU Jammu, Srinagar shall liaise with TCU Ramban before releasing the traffic,” it said.
Similarly, on the Srinagar-Leh highway, LMVs shall be allowed from both sides and HMVs shall be allowed from Srinagar towards Kargil on SSG road.
“LMVs will be released from Sonamarg towards Kargil at 0600 hrs. to 0830 hrs. followed by HMVs upto 1030 hrs. and LMVs will be released from Kargil towards Srinagar at 1400 hrs upto 1700 hrs. No vehicle shall be allowed between 1700 hrs. and 0600 hrs. It will be followed by HMV’s,” he said.
Similarly on Mughal Road, subject to fair weather and good road condition, only one way traffic LMVs from Poonch towards Shopian shall be allowed on Mughal Road. These vehicles shall be allowed from Behramgalla towards Shopian at 7 am upto 2 pm, it said.
