A 35-year-old woman from Jammu’s Bandurakh area is plying an e-rickshaw against all odds to meet her family’s needs.
Speaking to Rising Kashmir, Ranjeet Kaur, mother of two children said she started driving a rickshaw some 4 months ago. The e-rickshaw has never been an issue in her household because her husband is a professional driver who assisted her in learning to drive an e-rickshaw.
Kaur claimed that despite holding a full-time job, she manages her usual domestic obligations and has not experienced any difficulties.
Locals claim that Ranjeet Kaur serves as an example for other women who desire to provide for their families financially. Her name has now been added to the group of other women who have bucked expectations to better themselves and the people around them.
Ranjeet looked into a variety of ways to support herself until her husband learned that e-rickshaws could be acquired at a discount. Ranjeet’s husband taught her how to drive after the couple used an EMI to purchase the electric three-wheeler.
“I’m a mother of two; from the beginning, my kids and family have been quite supportive. I’m thankful for this opportunity since it enables me to provide for my family and give my children a better life and education.
At first, people were talking differently, but that hardly matters to me. I never paid any heed to them, and as a result, I am earning a handsome amount that has extended support to my whole family, which was facing financial hardship,” she said.
When asked how she is managing both her household and her children’s education, she said she believes balancing her work and household chores isn’t tough at all.
“I have a large number of passengers who call me whenever they need to go anywhere, and my e-rickshaw provides them with a better and safer environment,” Kaur said, adding that she earns between rupees 1500 and 2000 per day.
