Pahalgam, July 19: Municipal Committee (MC) Pahalgam on Wednesday conducted market checking and sealed a reputed hotel, and imposed a fine on erring traders for overpricing.
An official said the market checking was conducted at the main market and Loripora of Pahalgam to curb overpricing and to seize the single-use plastic from the market.
Executive Officer, MC Pahalgam Suhail Malik told Rising Kashmir that the MC team conducted the market checking drive to avoid traders from profiteering in view of the ongoing Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra at the famous tourist destination.
Pahalgam is witnessing a huge influx of tourists and to ensure the traders and restaurants abide by the quality product and reasonable rates, the MC team conducted the drive, he said.
“During the drive, we sealed one reputed hotel, and the adulterated food was seized from the hotel,” he said, adding, “The single-use plastic and expired items were also seized and destroyed on the spot. Also, a fine of Rs 24,000 was collected from the traders for violating the rules.”
The drive was carried out to ensure the overpricing is curbed so people get the best products at reasonable rates in the market, the officer added.
