Jammu, June 11: Apni Party Provincial president Jammu and former minister S Manjit Singh has demanded review from the Govt with regard to the holding of the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) in Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing a workers’ meeting, the former minister said that hundreds of students were compelled to appear in the examination centers established across the country.
“The children who had cleared their 12th class exams used to take admissions in their local Govt colleges which were an easy process and it would not put an additional financial burden on them. Hence, the process would allow even the poorest to get admission and continue higher education,” he said. “Equal opportunity was provided to all the students who wanted to pursue their higher education for BA or B.Sc. However, the CUET has compelled the parents to send their children out of J&K to appear in the exams, and the process of appearing in the entrance exams itself is costly.”
He said the government should review the decision and the students of J&K should be allowed to get admissions in their respective colleges to ensure that quality education is provided at the doorstep and no discrimination is made in the name of financial background.
Meanwhile, Manjit Singh demanded the full-fledged release of the pending package for the refugees. “Then Central government had sanctioned a financial package for the refugees but the sanctioned package was not released although the first installment was given to some of the refugees,” he said.
He demanded that the government should not delay the disbursement of the package amount in favour of the refugees.
