Samba, Jan 04: Apni Party Provincial President, Jammu and former minister, S Manjit Singh on Thursday demanded reservation of jobs for the local youth in the industrial sector in Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing a meeting at Sanyarki village in Raipur Kohlar (Morah Sanyarki) in Vijaypur constituency, the former minister said the local youth have been ignored regarding their employment in the industrial sector.
“Most of the industries sector in Samba, in particular, ignore the local population in skilled and unskilled jobs whereas they prefer employing non-locals that defeats the purpose of opening the industrial sector in the district or elsewhere,” he said, adding that the department concerned should act against such industrial units which do not fulfill the commitments made with the government.
Singh said these industrial units take subsidies from the government on various aspects while ensuring employment generation, but they hardly work for the unemployed youth by providing them placement in their respective units.
He recalled how these industrial units have become environmental hazards by defying the norms and rules of the government.
The Apni Party leader demanded action against the industrial units that did not provide employment to the local youth.
“The local youth are mostly given jobs on a contract basis as labourers and they have no secure future,” he said while expressing anguish over the silence of the authorities.
Majit warned that if the local youth continued to be ignored by the industrial units regarding their employment, the Apni Party would come on the roads. He, however, assured that if the Apni Party forms the next government in J&K, it would ensure the jobs are reserved for the local youth in the industrial youth.
