Anti-infiltration ops to continue: Army
Srinagar, July 18: Two unidentified terrorists were killed in joint operation of Jammu and Kashmir Police and Army on Thursday after security forces foiled another infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in Keran Sector of Kupwara district in north Kashmir, officials said.
It is the second infiltration attempt during the past 5 days in the Keran sector. Earlier this week, 3 terrorists were killed in Dhanush II, area of the same sector.
Srinagar based Chinar Corps Spokesman said that infiltration attempt has been successfully prevented with killing of 2 more terrorists on Thursday.
“In the Operation Rajbir, security forces have foiled successfully infiltration attempt with the elimination of two terrorists on Thursday on LoC in Keran Sector, of Kupwara district,” he said, adding that anti infiltration operations are continuing.
A senior police officer told Rising Kashmir that two unidentified terrorists have been killed along the fence after the security forces foiled an infiltration bid in the Keran sector.
The official said that during the wee hours, the movement of terrorists was detected and an operation was immediately launched. During firefight two terrorists were killed, whose identities are not yet ascertained, he said.
“During search, arms, ammunition and other war-like stores have been recovered from their possession,” he said.
“All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation. In this regard, Police have registered a case under relevant sections of law and investigation has been initiated,” he said.
The police official said extensive search of the area is being carried out and further details if any will be shared accordingly.
Earlier, this week ‘Chinar Corps’ Commander Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghaivisited forward posts in Keran sector of Kupwara to review the security situation and operational preparedness.
During his visit, he urged and motivated the troops to keep up the vigil and ensure that all inimical attempts and activities on the LoC are disrupted and eliminated.
This was the fourth possible infiltration bid along LoC so far in Kashmir this year. During the winter season when the snow sets in, infiltration attempts go down and pick up once the snow starts to melt and passes open up.
