Ganderbal, Feb 4: Residents of Wayil village in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district have raised concerns over the lack of banking facilities in their area, urging Jammu and Kashmir Bank to install an ATM to ease their financial transactions.
The absence of an ATM has forced villagers to travel long distances to access cash, causing significant inconvenience, particularly for the elderly and those in urgent need. Locals highlighted the challenges they face, stating that they must travel several kilometres to Ganderbal town to withdraw money.
However, even this option is not always reliable, as ATMs in the town often run out of cash. “We have no ATM facility in our village, and traveling to Ganderbal town is the only option. But sometimes, even those ATMs are out of cash, leaving us stranded,” said a resident of Wayil.
Another villager emphasised the difficulties faced during emergencies. “The lack of an ATM creates unnecessary hurdles, especially when we need cash urgently. Setting up an ATM here would benefit not just the residents but also local shopkeepers and commuters passing through the area,” he added. The villagers have now appealed to the Jammu and Kashmir Bank authorities and the district administration to address their plea and establish an ATM in Wayil at the earliest. They hope that this step will provide much-needed relief and improve access to essential banking services in the village.
