Anantnag , Feb 15: Residents of Chandpora Kanelwan village in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district Wednesday claimed  that around 40 children in the village have symptoms of Jaundice.

A local chemist, Shabir Ahmad Dar said that several children have been found infected as the level of Bilirubin among them is above normal range.

A local private school teacher , Showkat Ahmad Thokru said presently around 30 students of his institute are suspected to be suffering from jaundice.

“We have advised students to stay at home and take precautionary measures.”

Residents of the area believe contaminated water as a reason for the outbreak of the suspected disease.

A father of two children, Showkat Ramzan Rather said that his both children have been tested for jaundice and doctors have advised to use safe drinking water.

Rather said that he took his both wards to Sub District Hospital Bijbehara for screening where they were under observation.

Official from Medical Block Salar , Dr. Mushtaq said that the infection in the village might have been caused due to contaminated drinking water.

He said that they have already advised people to use boiled water for drinking which could limit the spread of infection in the area.

Meanwhile, a team of IDSP unit Anantnag, Medical officers Sallar and lab technicians collected 37 fresh samples from the area.

Medical Officer Sallar, Dr Gzanfar said, “We have collected around 37 fresh samples and have also taken the samples of water. The result of samples will come within days,” he said.

He said that the condition of the symptomatic patients is improving.

Meanwhile Rising Kashmir contacted the JE of Jal Shakti Department who assured that without any delay the samples of water which is being supplied to the village will be taken for further examination.
