Ganderbal, Sept 10: Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Kangan, Dr Nazir Ahmad, inspected two hotels and a dhaba on Wednesday after their licences were suspended, and directed them not to operate until further notice.
Meanwhile, the Food Safety Department (FSD) Ganderbal suspended the licences of three eateries – Shahi Tehzeeb Restaurant, Pathan Restaurant, and Bajard Dhaba – in the main market Kangan, following laboratory tests that declared their food unsafe.
Speaking to reporters, the SDM said the operational activities of these establishments have been halted until further orders. He said the administration would not tolerate violations of food safety guidelines.
“There was no rotten meat found, but laboratory tests revealed the presence of certain chemicals making the food unsafe,” Dr Nazir said. “We will never allow anyone to serve unhygienic food or endanger public health.”
The SDM urged traders, shopkeepers, and hoteliers to strictly adhere to food safety regulations and maintain proper hygiene standards.
District Officer of the Food Safety Department, Sheraz Ahmad said the action was part of routine inspections. “Samples were collected from these establishments and tested in the lab. The results indicated the food was unsafe, leading to suspension of their licences,” he said.
The officer warned that inspections will continue across the district, and strict legal action will be taken against anyone violating food safety guidelines.
