Budgam, Aug 16: The Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, today inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for various developmental projects totaling over ₹40 crore in Budgam district.
The Lt Governor also e-inaugurated 40 additional projects and schemes across the region, with a combined value of ₹101.66 crore, focusing on urban development and infrastructure enhancement.
During the event, the Lt Governor inaugurated the newly constructed accommodation for Panchayati Raj Institution (PRI) members at Sheikhpora, built at a cost of ₹6.41 crore. This initiative is aimed at strengthening the PRI institutions by providing safe and secure housing for their members. The Lt Governor also inaugurated multiple Panchayat Ghars across the district, including those at Pohru-A, Chattergam-B, Zoolwa, Panzan-B, Kechwari-C, Badipora, and Dreygam, designed to facilitate local governance and community decision-making.
In addition, community toilet units at the Charar-i-Sharief shrine were inaugurated to better serve the needs of devotees. A new receiving station at Aripanthan, constructed at a cost of ₹6.34 crore, was also unveiled to meet the long-standing power supply demands of residents in the surrounding areas.
The Lt Governor also inaugurated several Water Supply Schemes in Khasipora Chowdribagh, Kremshore-Dreygam, Khansahib, and Pakherpora, aimed at improving access to clean water in these regions.
In Budgam, the Lt Governor laid the foundation stones for the development of a community hall at Transit Accommodation Sheikhpora, the transformation of Sheikh-ul-Alam Hall into a Center for Skill Development and Training, and the construction of a Truss Girder Bridge at Takiyabal Kanigund, a project valued at ₹13.65 crore under RIDF XXIX. The bridge will provide a crucial alternative route to the Toshamaidan tourist destination.
Across Jammu and Kashmir, the Lt Governor inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for several other urban development projects under various municipal and smart city initiatives. These projects include the procurement of road-sweeping machines, development of green spaces, upgradation of footpaths, and the construction of fountains and community halls.
Significant among these projects are the Junction Improvement initiative in Jammu City Phase-I, valued at ₹23 crore, and the upgradation and improvement of façades in Shehr-e-Khaas market, a project worth ₹15.43 crore.
The J&K Lake Conservation and Management Authority (LCMA) also saw the inauguration of several key initiatives, including the connection of houseboats in Dal and Nigeen Lakes to sewage treatment plants, the introduction of new lake-cleaning machinery, and the eco-development of Kachri Mohalla as a model village inside Dal Lake.
The Lt Governor emphasized that these projects are part of a broader strategy to enhance infrastructure, improve living conditions, and promote sustainable development across Jammu and Kashmir.
