LG reviews preparations for I-Day 2024 celebrations

‘EkPedShaheedoKeNaam’ campaign to honor martyrs with tree planting

 

Srinagar, July 22: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha presided over a high-level meeting today to assess the preparations for the upcoming Independence Day celebrations. The meeting, which included Deputy Commissioners and senior officers from both the Civil and Police administrations, focused on ensuring smooth and hassle-free events across the Union Territory.
Attendees included Rajeev RaiBhatnagar, Advisor to the Lt. Governor; AtalDulloo, Chief Secretary; RR Swain, Director General of Police; and Dheeraj Gupta, Additional Chief Secretary of the Forest, Ecology, and Environment Department. Also present were ChandrakerBharti, Principal Secretary of the Home Department, along with various Administrative Secretaries, Divisional Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners, SSPs, and senior officials from the Security forces and Civil and Police administrations, participating both in person and virtually.
During the meeting, the Lt. Governor emphasized the necessity for all stakeholders to collaborate effectively to facilitate active public participation and ensure meticulous planning of activities. He highlighted the importance of honouring freedom fighters, unsung heroes, and martyrs through the events.
In addition, Lt. Governor Sinha announced the organisation of a SwachhtaPakhwada, a cleanliness drive, from August 01 to August 14, 2024. He also introduced a new campaign, ‘EkPedShaheedoKeNaam,’ which aims to pay tribute to martyrs by planting trees at prominent public places and memorials. The Lt. Governor urged that this campaign should evolve into a mass movement across Jammu and Kashmir, with the involvement of individuals, families, and notable personalities to ensure its success.
“This campaign, paying respect to martyrs by planting trees, should become a mass movement, all over J&K UT. Every individual, family, eminent personalities from various walks of life must come together to make the campaign a success,” the Lt Governor said.
