Handwara, Aug 04: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday visited Handwara area of Kupwara and inaugurated sports and various development projects aimed at the all-round development of the district.
During the event, the Lt. Governor dedicated a multi-purpose Indoor Sports Hall worth Rs 4 crore to the youth of Kupwara.
The Sports Hall, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, is expected to nurture local sporting talent and promote the development of young athletes.
Lt. Governor Sinha emphasized that providing such facilities to the youth is essential to strengthen the resolve of “Har Din Khel, Sabke Liye Khel.”
Acknowledging the contribution of sportspersons in making Jammu and Kashmir an emerging powerhouse of sports, the Lt. Governor expressed his commitment to empowering them by creating a robust support system and providing avenues for career progression. As part of this commitment, 200 outstanding sportspersons who have brought laurels to the country and the union territory at national and international events will soon be given government job appointments.
The Lt. Governor also highlighted the government’s efforts to establish peace and prosperity in the region. He emphasized that development can only thrive in conditions of peace and stability and reaffirmed the administration’s policy of punishing the guilty while ensuring the safety and dignity of innocent citizens.
Promoting overall welfare and empowerment, the administration has been working to deliver social justice by providing land to the landless population, including the tribal community. Lt. Governor Sinha stressed that the government’s goal is to ensure safety, security, and happiness in society, fulfilling the expectations of the people and fostering unity among all sections of the community.
The Lt. Governor praised the unprecedented progress achieved in various sectors and the positive impact on people’s lives. Infrastructure development has been a priority, with a focus on connecting far-flung areas through border tourism initiatives.
During his visit, the Lt. Governor inaugurated various development projects worth Rs 32 crore, which included the construction of sports complexes, grid substations, educational infrastructure, and water supply schemes, among others.
The UT Administration has also been actively promoting tourism in Kupwara district, recognizing its significant role in strengthening democracy and contributing to the overall growth of Jammu and Kashmir.
In the sports sector, the UT has seen remarkable achievements, with over 30 lakh people participating in various sporting events in the first quarter of 2023.
Representatives of PRIs and ULBs, sportspersons, and a large number of people attended the event, expressing their gratitude to the Lt. Governor and the UT Administration for the ongoing development works in District Kupwara.
