Jammu, Jan 30: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha paid heartfelt tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on his Punyatithi, recognising the enduring impact of Gandhian principles in shaping a new Jammu Kashmir.
The event, organised by the Gandhi Global Family, J&K, saw the LG honouring the family members of freedom fighters, martyrs, social activists, and NGOs for their remarkable contributions to nation-building.
Reflecting on Mahatma Gandhiji’s ideals, LG Sinha emphasised their transformative role in steering J&K away from the shadows of violence and terrorism that gripped the region for over three decades. “Following the ideals of Bapu, the UT of J&K is today creating its new identity as a land of peace, harmony, and brotherhood,” he stated.
LG Sinha highlighted the annual Shanti Yatra, dedicated to spreading Bapu’s ideals across the Union Territory, as a source of inspiration guiding people towards peace and unity. The hymns and messages of Mahatma Gandhi, promoting truth, non-violence, simplicity, and equality, are fostering a new consciousness among the people, noted LG Sinha.
Acknowledging the endeavours of the Gandhi Global Family J&K and various organisations promoting Gandhian values, LG Sinha commended their efforts in disseminating the noble message of Truth and Non-Violence.
The LG expressed appreciation for the dedication of Padma Shri Dr. SP Varma, President Gandhi Global Family J&K, and others working tirelessly to uphold these values.
LG Sinha also highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment to fulfilling Bapu’s dream of self-reliant villages and empowered rural India, ensuring the empowerment of youth, women, farmers, and marginalised sections of society.
The event, attended by senior officials, ex-servicemen, family members of martyrs and freedom fighters, prominent citizens, social workers, and youth, included a two-minute silence at the Civil Secretariat as a mark of respect to the Father of the Nation and the martyrs who sacrificed for India’s freedom.
