Bandipora, Mar 03: Minor landslides in Chandaji village of North Kashmir’s Bandipora district have created panic among local residents.
The locals of the village are terrified as there have been many incidents of continuous landslides in the village from last one week.
When contacted the OC Border Roads Organisation Colonel Abhishek told Rising Kashmir that landslides are occurring due to the illegal mining in the area. He said evidence regarding this has been forwarded to the police for necessary actions.
“The work to stop the occurrence of landslides has been started manually and will be completed within two days,” he said.
Yasir Ahmad, a local told Rising Kashmir that there are around thirteen families residing in the landslide prone area who were at risk. He said during the night the families are forced to shift to safer places.
An official told Rising Kashmir that people residing in the landslide prone area have been advised to remain extra cautious as there is a possibility of more landslides.
He said that they are monitoring the situation closely and have passed directions to BRO to keep vigil on landslides and take precautionary measures to avoid any untoward accident.
