Jammu, March 20, 2025: In response to Unstarred qQuestion raised by MLA Bashir Ahmad Veeri in the Assembly on Thursday, the Government of Jammu and Kashmir has confirmed that the South Campus of the University of Kashmir was established at Fatehgarh, Anantnag in 2006. The campus has since played a crucial role in expanding higher education opportunities in South Kashmir.
According to the official reply tabled in the Assembly, the South Campus currently offers a range of academic programmes including Integrated Ph.D. courses, postgraduate degrees such as MBA, MCA, M.A. in English, Urdu, Education, and M.Sc. in Mathematics, along with B.Ed., M.Ed., B.Sc. Nursing, and B.Sc. Medical Lab Technology.
In response to concerns raised about students seeking admissions in other universities due to the limited range of subjects offered at South Campus, the government stated that the existing courses have substantial enrollment. Moreover, the University is actively working on introducing new job-oriented and skill-based programmes.
These include: BBA-LLB (Integrated Law Programme), B.Sc. in Medical Lab, Technology (MLT), B.Sc. in Operation Theatre Technology (OTT),B.Sc. in Radio-Diagnostics
Additionally, diploma courses such as X-ray Technician and Cardiac Care Technician programmes are also being planned. Notably, the 82nd University Council Meeting held on March 20, 2023, has already approved the launch of BBA-LLB and B.Sc. MLT courses.
Regarding the demand for granting full-fledged university status to the South Campus, the Government has stated that the matter will be examined on its merits in due course.
