Srinagar, Nov 01: The Allama Iqbal Library (AIL), University of Kashmir (KU) recently hosted its Annual Alumni Meet-2024, bringing together former staff and alumni to share insights from their professional journeys and reflect on the library’s evolution and contributions.
On the occasion, Dean, College Development Council, Prof Khursheed A Butt, commended the alumni as the “real treasure” of the library, noting that their success and dedication elevate the institution’s stature.
“Your contributions have greatly enriched our library and we must work together to enhance its impact on future generations,” he said.
Prof Butt also expressed concern over declining readership, urging collaborative efforts to encourage a renewed engagement with the library’s resources.
Welcoming the alumni, Librarian, AIL, Dr Fayaz Ahmad, extended his gratitude for the lasting impact of their work and encouraged them to share their success stories.
“Each one of you has played a role in making this library a cornerstone of knowledge and academic growth,” he added.
In a special gesture, each guest received a memento in the form of a book, symbolising the library’s ongoing mission to preserve and promote knowledge.
Former librarian, Dr A M Baba, took pride in the library’s extensive collection, noting, “The ideas and practices nurtured here have left a mark, even reaching national levels of recognition.”
Ex-Registrar and librarian, Prof A M Mattoo, reflected on his tenure, highlighting the advancements in library management and modernisation initiatives.
“Integrating new technology was vital for keeping our resources accessible and relevant,” he said.
Former Head, Department of Library & Information Sciences (DLIS), Prof Wajih A Alvi, spoke about the technological transformation of the library.
“This institution has become a powerful link between users and the vast expanse of information, thanks to the evolving tools we have adopted over the years,” he maintained.
The event included interactive sessions where alumni shared their experiences, networked with colleagues and explored avenues for future collaboration.
The event also featured a cultural programme.
Senior Assistant Librarian, Dr Uzma Qadri, proposed the formal vote of thanks.
