Kulgam SWD hosts training prog on ‘Child Rights’ , ‘Juvenile Justice’

Kulgam, Feb 06: The Mission Vatsalya, Social Welfare Department (SWD), Kulgam on Tuesday organized a one-day ‘Sensitization Cum Orientation and Training Programme’ on the Juvenile Justice Act 2015, POCSO Act 2012, and Child Rights at the Mini Secretariat DC Office Kulgam .

 

According to an official, the programme was arranged by the District Child Protection Officer (DCPO) Mission Vatsalya, Kulgam, following the directives of the Commissioner Secretary to Government Social Welfare Department, and under the supervision of District Administration, Kulgam.

 

He said, that the aim of the programme was to raise awareness regarding Child Rights and ensure the proper implementation of the Juvenile Justice Act in the district.

 

Snobar Altaf, DCPO Kulgam, briefed the audience on the programme’s objectives and delivered a welcome address.

 

Various stakeholders, including advocates, a local NGO, and a project coordinator, were invited as guests to the program. The program was presided over by Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Kulgam, Viqar Ahmad Giri.

 

Facilitators conducted sessions on Child Rights Mechanism, an overview of the Juvenile Justice Act 2015 and POCSO Act 2012, overview of adoption regulations 2022, and the role of SSA, overview of Mission Vatsalya, among other topics.

 

“District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Child Welfare Committee (CWC), and Juvenile Justice Board (JJB), are actively working to ensure the implementation of child rights and juvenile justice acts, while also combating child labor and violations of related laws,” he added.

 

Snobar Altaf, DCPO, said that under the Integrated Child Protection Scheme (ICPS), the department focuses on providing preventive, statutory, care, and rehabilitation services to vulnerable children, including those from potentially vulnerable families, families at risk, orphans, child drug abusers, child beggars, trafficked or sexually exploited children, besides others as per the law.
