Srinagar, Feb 04: Various parts of Kashmir Valley witnessed candlelight vigils on Tuesday evening as people gathered in multiple districts to condemn the recent attack in Kulgam, where a retired army soldier was shot dead, and his wife and daughter were injured.
Residents from Pulwama, Shopian, Kulgam, Kupwara, Handwara, and Baramulla assembled at district headquarters, denouncing the brutal incident. The vigils saw participation from civil society members, trade bodies, youth forums, students, and locals, all voicing their outrage against the act of violence.
Protesters raised slogans against terrorism and condemned those responsible for the attack. Many also chanted anti-Pakistan slogans, demanding an end to such acts of terror.
Sheikh Jamshid, a protester, expressed sorrow over the attack, stating, “We strictly condemn the killing of innocent people. Those involved in this heinous crime must be dealt with strictly. I am confident that the security forces will neutralise or nab the perpetrators behind this attack.”
The attack, which took place on Monday in Kulgam, claimed the life of a ex-serviceman. His wife and daughter, who sustained injuries in the attack, are currently undergoing treatment in the hospital and are said to be in stable condition.
Widespread protests were held in both South and North Kashmir, with demonstrators urging stringent action against those responsible.
