Srinagar, July 14: The University of Kashmir on Friday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Information Technology, Senapati, Manipur, to undertake a student exchange programme in the disciplines of mutual interest.
Established in 2015, the IIIT, Senapati, Manipur works under the aegis of the Ministry of Education, Government of India to offer cutting-edge research and education in key areas of computer science engineering and other basic sciences and humanities.
The MoU caps the number of ‘exchange students’ accepted by the host university at six persons at a given time in a year while resolving that the period of attendance at the host university for such students shall not exceed one year (two semesters). On request of the concerned students, the MoU allows recognition of academic credits awarded or coursework evaluated according to the criteria of the home university.
Vice-Chancellor, KU, Prof Nilofer Khan and Director, IIIT Manipur, Prof Krishnan Baskar signed the MoU, which will cover undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral students for the student exchange programme.
Dean of Academic Affairs, KU, Prof Farooq A Masoodi, Dean College Development Council, Prof Khurshid A Butt, Dean Research Prof Irshad A Nawchoo and Registrar Dr Nisar A Mir were also present at the MoU-signing ceremony held at the Vice-Chancellor’s Secretariat.
Describing the MoU as very significant, Prof Nilofer said the University will pursue it very seriously to enable the students to reap its benefits. She said student exchange programmes are a strong means to foster institutional collaborations and offer the students a great opportunity to learn by way of sharing of knowledge and exchange of ideas.
“I am confident that the MoU will give students from both institutions a great learning exposure,” she said.
Prof Krishnan Baskar highlighted the broad contours of the MoU and vowed to translate its objectives into a reality. He also highlighted the importance of student exchange progammes in strengthening the imprint of academic institutions at the national and international levels.
