Baramulla, June 25: In a momentous achievement for the literary community, renowned Kashmiri poet Nighat Nasreen has been nominated for the esteemed Yuva Puraskar, also known as Sahitya Akademi Yuva Puraskar, for her book “Lalle Nillvath Tchale Na Zanh”. The book is a collection of 92 poems spanning 192 pages.
Nighat stands as the sole Kashmiri literary figure nominated for this prestigious award in the year 2023.
Yuva Puraskar is a literary honour in India which Sahitya Akademi, India’s National Academy of Letters, annually confers on young writers of outstanding works in one of the 24 major Indian languages.
The nomination recognises her exceptional contributions to poetry and literature, with her thought-provoking works resonating deeply with readers.
Nighat Nasreen, a resident of Kachuwa Muqam in Baramulla, has captivated audiences with her evocative verses and insightful storytelling.
With three published books to her name, including the critically acclaimed “Lalle Nillvath Tchale Na Zanh,” which is a collection of poems, Nasreen has left an indelible mark on the literary landscape.
“Su chu Khoshvun khoshvun sonta hava
Su chu dalvun dalvun badesaba
Su chu myanen khaban hund tabeer
Suchu lutfan myanen rut tameer
Su chu chasman myanen sorma schul
Su chu deka tika mani dekuk anmol…”
These poignant lines are a mere glimpse into Nasreen’s poetic genius, as she skillfully weaves emotions and societal issues into her verses. Her innovative approach and thorough exploration of women’s experiences have garnered praise from scholars and readers alike.
Expressing her joy over the nomination, Nasreen said, “I am very much happy to be nominated for the award. It is a dream come true.” She believes that women possess a unique ability to excel in writing and convey justice through their words, highlighting the transformative power of literature.
Nighat told Rising Kashmir that she has also authored two more books encompassing Kashmir folklore “Koshur Wanwun” and a collection of short stories (Afsana) that delve into the realm of day-to-day life and our society.
The books authored by Nighat Nasreen are available at Kitab Ghar in Srinagar and Hilal News Agency in Baramulla.
