Pulwama, July 20 : Chander M Bhat, a renowned Kashmiri Pandit and prolific writer from Murran village in Pulwama, has released his much-anticipated book, “KASHMIR…Shrines and Temples.”
The book was unveiled at the JawalaJi Temple in Khrew on Haar Tchodah, a day marking the birthday of Mata JawalaJi.
The release was officiated by Pandit Ravi Ji Bhat, a notable social worker from Ladhu village.
“KASHMIR…Shrines and Temples” is the result of over two decades of meticulous research by Chander M Bhat.
Bhat began documenting the temples and shrines of Kashmir in October 1990, during his tenure as Assistant Director Postal Services in Srinagar. Initially focused on the six districts of Kashmir at that time, Bhat expanded his project as more districts were established, ultimately cataloguing over 600 sacred sites throughout the region.
The book offers an in-depth exploration of 100 shrines and temples across the 10 districts of Kashmir. It is structured into five sections: Ancient Temples, Devi Shrines, Shrines and Temples linked to Lord Shiva, Spring Shrines, and various other sacred sites. Each section provides comprehensive insights into the historical significance, geographical context, precise coordinates, and current condition of these religious sites.
Bhat’s exhaustive documentation encompasses a diverse array of sacred sites, including temples, springs, the abodes of Bhairavas such as elm and mulberry trees, as well as revered mountain lakes, springs, and caves cherished by the Kashmiri Pandit community.
This extensive exploration captures the breadth and depth of Kashmir’s spiritual landscape, spanning diverse traditions and historical epochs.
Speaking at the event, Chander M Bhat expressed his gratitude for the unwavering support he received from the local populace during his research visits to various villages over the past 23 years.
