Jammu, Dec 18: A three-day art exhibition, featuring 50 exquisite paintings and artworks, was inaugurated Wednesday at the Master Sansar Chand Gallery, Kala Kendra, Jammu.
Organized by the Kala Kendra Society in collaboration with the J&K Centre for Creative Arts (CCA), the event is being held in memory of eminent artist T.S. Batra, whose contributions to the art world remain unparalleled.
Former Minister Ajay Sadhotra graced the occasion as Chief Guest. The presidium included Dr. Javaid Rahi, Secretary, Kala Kendra Society; O.P. Sharma, Director, JKCCA; renowned art promoter Kewal Pandit; and former MLA Qazi Jala-ud-Din.
Welcoming the attendees, Dr. Javaid Rahi highlighted the significant contributions of T.S. Batra, describing him as a visionary artist who played a pivotal role in promoting the art of Jammu and Kashmir on national and international platforms.
O.P. Sharma emphasized that the exhibition aims to provide a platform for both local and national artists to display their works collaboratively. He added that five original paintings by T.S. Batra were among the exhibits, offering a rare glimpse into the maestro’s creative legacy.
Speaking at the event, Chief Guest Ajay Sadhotra lauded the exhibition as a vital link to the region’s cultural heritage. He fondly recalled T.S. Batra’s contributions to the Institute of Music and Fine Arts, where he mentored numerous students who have since achieved national recognition. Sadhotra urged art institutions, particularly universities, to preserve and propagate the rich artistic traditions of Jammu and Kashmir as a fitting tribute to the late artist.
Renowned art promoter Kewal Pandit expressed his appreciation for the artists, calling them the “true treasures of society.” He encouraged the artistic fraternity to organize similar events regularly to foster a thriving cultural environment. The exhibition will remain open to the public until 20th December, from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM daily, providing an educational and cultural experience for art enthusiasts and the general public alike.
