JaMMU, May 13: The Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) has decided to constitute a Central Purchase Committee CPC) for purchasing/procuring all kinds of items required by the civic body for different works and other purposes.
“The decision to set up Central Purchase Committee has been taken by the Corporation to keep a check on commission culture and nepotism,” the JMC Mayor, Rajinder Sharma told Rising Kashmir, adding, “the names of the members of the Central Purchase Committee would be announced soon”.
The Mayor said that the Central Purchase Committee will have four members and will not be led by the JMC Commissioner. There have been reports that the JMC’s various divisions make purchases in the crores of rupees at their own will, with commissions taken.
“Now, after constitution of Central Purchase Committee, the accountability will be fixed in the purchases”, the Mayor said.
As of now, the different departments of the JMC purchase/procure things of their requirement on their own. With the constitution of Central Purchase Committee, the authority of the different departments will be under check.
After constitution of the Central Purchase Committee, the funds will be released by the JMC Commissioner only, he said.
