Jammu, Dec 15: The Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) on Friday said it has recently revised its rates and fees after thorough consideration of various factors, including the inflation index. The adjustments come after an extended period, with rates of various services and rents for municipal assets being increased.
Building permission fees, which were last fixed in 2016, have been enhanced as approved by the General House. Similarly, Trade Tax rates, established in 1994, have not been revised since then and have now been adjusted. The NOC fees, last revised in 2019, have also been updated, with a focus on rationalizing rates to ensure that small businesses face lower fees.
Previously, various establishments were categorized under miscellaneous and charged uniformly at Rs 7700. With the recent revision, rates have been rationalized based on the size of the shop, school, or establishment. For example, creche/playschools are now charged at Rs 2000, primary schools at Rs. 4000 and middle schools at Rs 6000 per annum, the corporation said.
The JMC said that advertisement rates have also been enhanced, taking inflation into account. Street vendor license fees, last revised in 2015, have seen a nominal increase over the past 8 years. The rent for shops, godowns and garages was last revised in 2019 and, as per the policy, should have been due in 2022. However, it has been revised now with a nominal increase, it said.
The corporation clarified that in compliance with the directives of the high court, the residential accommodation policy has been notified. Consequently, the rent for flats occupied by authorized allottees is being increased in line with market rates determined by the rent assessment committee, following the policy and the high court order, it said.
