Dir Sericulture reviews Cocoon crop achievements

Inspects newly Constructed Silkworm Seed Station at Miran Sahib, Jammu

Jammu, Dec 06: Ajaz Ahmad Bhat, Director Sericulture J&K, today presided over a detailed review meeting at the Directorate of Sericulture Development Department, Camp Office Jammu. The meeting witnessed the participation of all officers from the Jammu Division.
A detailed discussion was held on the district-wise achievements for both the Spring and Autumn cocoon crop seasons of 2024-25. Officers provided updates on the production targets, outcomes, and challenges faced during the respective seasons. The progress of field plantations under various schemes, including Departmental initiatives, Silk Samagra-2, and others, for the years 2023-24 and 2024-25 was reviewed in the meeting.
The Director, Sericulture J&K, emphasised the survival rates of these plantations and strategies for improving their sustainability and growth. The physical and financial progress under Capex, HADP, NABARD, and Silk Samagra-2 for the years 2023-24 and 2024-25 was thoroughly analyzed. During the deliberations, Mr. Bhat exhorted the officers to expedite pending works and ensure the optimal utilization of allocated resources.
Mr. Bhat stressed the importance of meeting production goals to ensure the steady supply of quality seeds for sericulture farmers. The production of silkworm seeds against the set targets for 2024-25 was also reviewed.
During discussions, Mr. Bhat appreciated the efforts of the officers and field staff in achieving the set targets despite various challenges. He further emphasized the need for collective, coherent, and collaborative efforts to further enhance the performance of the Sericulture sector in J&K.
The Director also called for regular monitoring and evaluation of all ongoing projects to ensure transparency and efficiency. He urged the officers to engage closely with farmers and stakeholders, addressing their concerns and providing timely support.
The meeting concluded with actionable directives issued to the officers, with a commitment to achieving excellence in the Sericulture sector and contributing to the economic upliftment of the region
Later in the day, Ajaz Ahmad Bhat, IAS, conducted a field visit to Miran Sahib, District Jammu, to inspect the newly constructed Silkworm Seed Station. The facility has been designed to locally produce silkworm seed which shall bolster the region’s seed production capacity and reduce dependency on external sources.
