Senior Congress leader and Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) chief Tariq Hamid Karra has strongly criticized the Government of India’s claims regarding normalcy in Kashmir. He stated that despite repeated assurances from the government, the ground reality suggests otherwise, citing rising civilian and security force casualties.

Tariq Karra highlighted recent incidents of violence and an increasing number of heart attack-related deaths in Jammu, questioning the government’s narrative that “everything is fine.” He urged the Centre to reassess its policies and present a clearer picture of the situation in Kashmir.

“Amit Shah’s responsibility is to restore peace, but that has not been achieved yet.

People are feeling insecure due to continuous killings,” Karra remarked, emphasizing the need for a fresh approach.

Regarding the return of Kashmiri Pandits, Karra welcomed the initiative taken by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq to facilitate their rehabilitation. He stated that the Congress Party has always supported the return of Kashmiri Pandits and urged collective efforts to reintegrate them into Kashmiri society.

When asked about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the United States, Karra refrained from making direct remarks but stated that the real outcome of the visit would be evident based on the reception he receives there. (KNS)
