Srinagar, March 09: In a move aimed at improving policing and ensuring swift resolution of public grievances, the Jammu and Kashmir Police has introduced a Grievance Redressal System in South (city) Srinagar. Under this initiative, special nodal officers have been deployed at all police stations to address complaints in a time-bound manner.
Speaking to Rising Kashmir, Superintendent of Police (SP) South City, Shabir Khan said the initiative was launched on the directions of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Srinagar Imtiyaz Hussain.
“Special nodal officers have been deputed at every police station in South City to listen to public grievances and ensure their timely redressal. Complainants will also receive updates on the progress of their cases,” SP South City said.
He added that the initiative will help ensure better and more effective policing, as the designated officers will be available round the clock to handle complaints. Several residents who have benefited from the system have expressed their satisfaction, calling it a much-needed reform in policing.
Aijaz Ahmad, a local businessman from Shaheed Gunj area of the city, said his long-pending property dispute was resolved swiftly after he filed a complaint. “I had been running from one office to another for months with no resolution. But when I approached the grievance redressal system, the police acted promptly, and my issue was settled in just a few days. This system is truly a blessing for people like us,” he said.
Shabnum Jan, a resident of Srinagar, said the initiative helped her retrieve her lost mobile phone. “I had lost hope of getting my phone back, but when I reported it through the grievance redressal system, the police tracked it down in just a week. This new system has made accessing justice much easier for common people,” she said.
Another resident, Bashir Ahmad, who had a financial dispute with a business partner, said the intervention of the police grievance cell ensured a timely resolution. “Earlier, such cases would take months, but this time, the officers followed up regularly and ensured that I got my rightful dues within days. The system is working efficiently, and I am grateful for it,” he said.
The police grievance redressal system is expected to streamline complaint resolution, minimize bureaucratic delays, and strengthen public trust in law enforcement. Officials believe the move will make policing more transparent, accountable, and accessible to the people of Srinagar.
