Election of Speaker, LG address to mark start of Session scheduled for next month
Pro-tem Speaker Mubarak Gul reviews preparations

SRINAGAR, OCT 28: Pro-tem Speaker of the Jammu & Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Mubarak Gul, reviewed preparations today for the inaugural session of the current Union Territory Legislature, set to commence on November 4.
The session, called by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, will include the election of the Speaker and an address to the Assembly by the LG.
In a high-level meeting, the Pro-tem Speaker emphasized the need for seamless arrangements to ensure the smooth conduct of the session. The meeting, attended by the Secretary of the Legislative Assembly, Director Estates (Jammu/Kashmir), Director of Hospitality & Protocol, SSP Secretariat Security, General Manager of JKTDC, and representatives from Information, IT, and other relevant departments, focused on logistical preparations and coordination.
Mubarak Gul instructed the Information Department to facilitate comprehensive media coverage of the Assembly proceedings, including the LG’s inaugural address and interactions with elected representatives. He stressed the importance of a hassle-free environment for media personnel, with arrangements for public address systems and adequate microphones in the hall to ensure clear communication.
The Estates Department was urged to expedite ongoing work to ready the Assembly complex in Jammu for the winter session and to enhance facilities for media briefings in the complex’s lawns. Mubarak Gul highlighted the need for accommodating essential staff to ensure the year-round smooth functioning of the Assembly Secretariat in both Srinagar and Jammu.
Additionally, he directed the Hospitality & Protocol Department to install waterproof canopies in the Secretariat lawns to provide a conducive environment for media briefings and interactions with members. Preparations for dignitaries’ dining and refreshments in the Assembly canteen were also discussed, with a focus on creating a welcoming setup.
With the inaugural session approaching, the Pro-tem Speaker underscored the importance of meticulous planning and inter-departmental coordination to facilitate a successful commencement of legislative proceedings for the Union Territory’s Assembly.
